World Expeditions celebrates 30th anniversary of the first Australian ascent of Mt Everest
It has been 30 years since Tim Macartney-Snape made history by summiting Mt Everest – without local guiding support, without supplemental oxygen and via a new and vexing route – and World Expeditions is celebrating this achievement with a national speaking tour.
During October at locations around Australia, Macartney-Snape will share his first-hand account of the trials and tribulations of the first Australian team’s historic mountaineering achievement, enabling guests to hear about the tenacity, courage, determination and ingenuity of this remarkable expedition.
The 30 Years from the Summit tour dates are:
• Wednesday 15th October - Australian National University, Canberra
• Thursday 16th October - Wesley Conference Centre, Lyceum Theatre, Sydney
• Friday 17th October - Australian Climbing Festival, Katoomba
• Tuesday 21st October - State Library of Queensland, Brisbane
• Wednesday 22nd October - Mercury Theatre, Adelaide
• Thursday 23th October - State Library of Western Australia , Perth
• Tuesday 28th October - City Library of Newcastle, Lovett Gallery, Newcastle
• Wednesday 29th October - RMIT Kaleide Theatre, Melbourne
• Thursday 30th October - The Tramsheds Auditorium, Launceston
Today, Macartney-Snape is passionate about improving the quality of life and education for young people in the country’s remote communities and all proceeds from the 30 Years from the Summit National Tour will be donated to the World Expeditions Foundation to support the company’s charity work in Nepal, including its Kshamawati Secondary School Hostel Community Project.
Tickets are $20 and can be booked at 1300 720 000, www.worldexpeditions.com
The tour is supported by Paddy Pallin and Sea to Summit.
