Works progress on Shoalhaven’s Bomaderry major sports facility
Shoalhaven City Council has advised that a substantial portion of the $15.4 million project to transform Bomaderry’s Artie Smith Oval into a premier recreational facility is now complete and is on track to be complete in time for spring.
Last month, turf was laid on the new AFL and cricket fields, while construction continues on the development of new facilities and amenities for a range of sports.
The Shoalhaven Community and Recreation Precinct Artie Smith Oval – Southern project is co-funded by Council and the Australian Government and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.
Mayor Amanda Findley said Council is excited to be delivering a contemporary regional sporting facility for the Shoalhaven and adds “this redevelopment will provide quality training and sporting facilities for local sports clubs, players and will attract major sporting events to the Shoalhaven.
“This project is part of a long-term plan to meet the needs of our growing community now and into the future.”
The new Artie Smith Oval facilities will include:
a new AFL/Cricket field and pavilion clubhouse and amenities
cricket practice facilities
four croquet courts, clubhouse and amenities
open space embellishments, including play and exercise equipment, landscaping, pathways and seating furniture
onsite car parking
perimeter security fencing providing pedestrian access.
The AFL building rendering and internal framework is now complete, with external cladding continuing. Work on the croquet building is progressing with windows and doors being installed imminently.
The posts to the cricket practise area, oval irrigation and the cricket building internal framing works and roofing have been completed.
The forecast completion date is late August 2023, having been delayed by wet weather.
