Work starts on $47.2 million Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre expansion

With the Wyndham community being Victoria's fastest growing municipality, work on a $47.2 million expansion of the Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre has begun.

Launching works to expand the complex last week, Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty stated "with more and more people making the move to outer suburbs like Werribee, these new works will ensure this vital local infrastructure keeps up to speed with the increasing sport and recreation needs of this expanding community."

The $47.2 million project will expand the Centre's six indoor courts to 12, including a show court with up to 1,500 seat capacity; four outdoor courts, cafe, dedicated table tennis space, health and fitness area with programmable space, gym, spin room and members lounge, amenities, storage and function rooms, crèche and administration areas, foyer and entrance with self help control and bus drop-off area and car parking spaces.

Minister Delahunty stated "local sports clubs, right up to elite state squads will soon have the perfect venue to train, build on sport development programs and stage the big events.

"Importantly, the bigger venue will open up a whole range of new sport and recreation opportunities for locals to get together, build on their fitness, join a club and get more active, more often.

Wyndham City Council is contributing $37 million for the facility, the Federal Government $9 million while the Victorian Government is contributing $650,000 towards this project from the Community Facility Funding Program.
