Wollongong City Council offers funding to clubs and associations using Council sportsgrounds
With Wollongong City Council recognising the role sports clubs play in the social fabric of the community, Council is offering financial assistance for local sports clubs and associations who need support with small and medium-sized projects.
Council’s Sports Grants will be awarded to projects that align with Council’s Sports Strategy priorities which include:
Increase opportunities for people to participate in sport
Increase sportsground capacity and allow sites to be used for multiple sports and groups
Renew and enhance existing sporting infrastructure, with a focus on gender equity, accessibility, and storage
Invest in infrastructure to support and accommodate emerging sports and independent recreational pursuits.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery notes “we want to champion active and healthy communities, and one of the ways we can achieve that is by supporting our local sporting institutions. Sports clubs are an important part of the social fabric of our community as they engage with people of all ages.
“Council’s Sports Grants are targeting local sports clubs and associations who need funding for small and medium-sized projects. That could mean improving or upgrading toilet amenities so that people of all genders, ages and abilities can safely use sports grounds or it could potentially support the installation of new lighting to improve the usage of a sporting field, especially in winter when the days are shorter. Or even simply improving seating and fencing infrastructure.
“Whatever your idea is, please make the most of this program and consider applying for financial assistance so that we can help support your project.”
In 2023, Council awarded $423,000 in financial assistance to local sporting clubs through the Sports Grants Program. This included projects such as resurfacing the Wiseman Tennis Courts, renewing the cricket nets for the Northern District Cricket Club and funding drainage works for the Figtree Junior Football Club.
