Winter not over at New Zealand ski resorts

New snow, powder skiing, and more in the forecast means night skiing at Queenstown’s Coronet Peak has been extended for one more weekend.

NZSki’s also announced a series of spring deals on offer at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, and Mt Hutt.

These include two-for-one ‘Spring Fling’ midweek adult lift passes, special ‘Spring in Your Step’ afternoon workshops to help you perfect your technique, and a two-day ‘Spring Fever’ introduction to snow package.

For the first time, tubing is now available daily at Coronet Peak from Wednesday (17th September), and will run during this weekend’s night skiing.

With a fresh deposit of 6 cm of snow on Monday night and more in the forecast in the coming days, Coronet Peak Ski Area Manager Ross Copland said it was time to come up the mountain, have a slide and enjoy the snow, before having to wait until next winter to do it again.

Copland said he was “excited” to extend night skiing until this coming weekend, stating “we’re stoked to be able to welcome back night skiers to Coronet Peak because conditions are so good right now.

“It’s great to see a top up of the white stuff, so come up and enjoy what really will be the finale of night skiing for the season, along with music on the deck from our resident DJ and food and drink specials all night.

“With the new snow and great conditions, there’s no excuse not to hit the slopes and enjoy superb spring conditions.”

The fresh snow is perfect timing for families with the New Zealand school holidays starting on 27th September.

The Remarkables has received 5cm of snow this week, while Mt Hutt has an additional 10cm of snow today which has been falling since 6am this morning.

With the ‘Spring Fling’, skiers or boarders can bring a friend to Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt, or The Remarkables mid-week, buy a full mountain Adult Day Lift Pass and receive another free.

Copland added “spring’s the perfect time to enjoy the slopes in the sunshine, and the new tubing and deals on offer make it perfect for families, friends, first timers, or those looking to tweak their technique.”
