West Beach Parks to transform into $2.9 million Adelaide community precinct and play space
Set on the coastal precinct of Adelaide’s West Beach Parks and nestled among natural vegetation, a new public square and open space will be developed to provide facilities for community events, recreation and play, nestled among natural vegetation.
West Beach Parks will also include a kiosk, shelter, and other amenities.
The Square at West Beach Parks is being developed and funded by West Beach Parks, supported by a $1.45 million South Australian Government grant under the Planning and Development Fund.
Designed by Studio Nine Architects, The Square at West Beach Parks will re-establish the site with natural vegetation and connect the local and broader community to the West Beach Parks precinct.
West Beach Trust Chair Jane Jeffreys notes “The Square at West Beach Parks is a beachside community open space encouraging connection to nature, to play and to community for the enjoyment and wellbeing of everyone.
“It will be the heart of the West Beach Parks precinct and is aligned to our Master Plan, linking visitors to the area’s unrivalled diversity of natural, recreational, community and sporting activities.”
Housing and Urban Development Planning Minister Nick Champion adds “the State Government is partnering with West Beach Parks to deliver a new public space that will create a more liveable, sustainable and healthy community.
“It’s great that work is beginning to revitalise this important public space.
“This is a key commitment to encourage more people to get outdoors and be active in the community.”
The West Beach Trust (marketed as West Beach Parks) is a statutory authority created under South Australia’s West Beach Recreation Reserve Act 1987 to manage the reserve and its associated facilities.
The West Beach Parks Precinct covers 135 hectares of beachfront land and comprises of two accommodation properties, two public golf courses, diverse competition-level sporting facilities, a boat haven and a broad range of lessees.
Construction on the Square will begin this month, with completion expected later this year.
