Wellington Zoo welcomes arrival of Tasmanian Devils with Australia Day gala event
Wellington Zoo is celebrating the recent arrival of a group of Tasmanian Devils with an 'Aussie Gala Day' this Sunday (26th January).
Announcing the event, Group Manager Community Engagement Amy Hughes explaining "the Aussie Gala Day falls on Australia Day, and we're using this as an opportunity to officially welcome our four new Tasmanian Devils to Wellington Zoo.'
"The Devils have been a huge hit since they arrived in December. They're fantastic ambassadors for their species, and we're passionate about sharing their survival story with our visitors."
The Aussie Gala Day will also be a celebration of Wellington Zoo's recently opened 'Neighbours' precinct an engaging walk-through exhibit home to Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Parma and Tammar Wallabies, Emu, Dingoes, Water Dragons, Brolga Crane and Cape Barren Geese.
The Aussie Gala Day will feature four Tasmanian Devil talks during the day, while entertainment will play on Australian pop culture and backyard fun including Aussie-themed games and prizes, face-painting, stilt walkers, music and giveaways from Classic Hits.
Wellington Zoo is a proud partner of the 'Save the Tasmanian Devil Program', a Tasmanian Government initiative that was established in 2003 in response to the threat of Devil Facial Tumour Disease.
