Wellington Unveils a Stellar Experience

Wellington's newly revamped 'Place for Space' - The Carter Observatory has reopened with all new interactive exhibits and new state of the art 9m digital planetarium dome.
As Positively Wellington Tourism Chief Executive David Perks says âThe Carter Observatory is adding a new celestial chapter to the capitalâs already captivating book of New Zealand stories.
âTe Papa, the most visited museum in Australasia, shares the stories of New Zealandâs people to an average of 1.3 million visitors a year. Now locals and visitors alike can also learn about our southern skies at The Carter Observatory.?
Visitors to Carter Observatory will be taken on a virtual trip through the Milky Way (Te Ikaroa) and beyond in less time it takes to walk from one side of the cultural capital to the other. Seated in comfortable reclining seats, the audience is guided through a fascinating virtual motion tour out of Wellington to the edge of our Solar System and beyond.
It has been a significant few months for Wellington attractions with the recently reopened Zealandia: The Karori Sanctuary Experience named among the top 75 green attractions in the world by UKâs The Guardian newpaper.
Meanwhile âthe best little zoo in the worldâ, Wellington Zoo, has been hailed as having the best new large exhibit at the Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria Awards.
