Waverley Council advances Bondi beach makeover, opens new outdoor gym

Sydney's Bondi Beach is set to receive a $20 million upgrade as part of Waverly Council's 10 year plan of management for Bondi Park, Beach and Pavilion.

Waverley Council's plan for Sydney's third most visited site includes a range of projects including more toilets, new picnic shelters, a children's playground and a beginners' skate park.

$20 million has been allocated in the Council’s Long Term Financial Plan for the Bondi Park, Beach and Pavilion 10 year Plan of Management.

The upgrade includes $10 million to refurbish the Bondi Pavilion (pictured below), described by Waverley Mayor Sally Betts as "one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings.”

Bondi Beach’s outdoor fitness station is set to be reopened after a $220,000 upgrade.

Introducing the upgrade, Mayor Betts, will officially open the outdoor gym on Thursday 2nd October, said the old fitness station was more than 15 years old and had come to the end of its life.

She explained "our residents live such an active lifestyle so I am pleased to be able to see this project completed and I am sure the gym will get a good work out."

Residents suggested the upgrade as part of a broad consultation program for the Bondi Park, Beach and Pavilion Plan of Management.

The new fitness station has about 12 pieces of equipment, including: Triple dip bars and ballet barre, low push up bars, chest height push up bars, two inclined benches, a level bench with a squat post and bars, a level bench with dip/handstand bars, post dips, hop bars, a free standing pole, pull up bars, monkey bars and flag post, and a mat area for ground work.
