The competition will consist of eight rounds contested contested by eight teams at venues in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, with finals set to be held at Brisbane’s Yeronga Park Pool on Sunday 22nd November.
Other venues that will host the competition include the St Andrews Aquatic Centre at Perigian on the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane's Valley Pool and the Miami Aquatic Centre on the Gold Coast.
Introducing the competition, Water Polo Queensland explains that “the League will offer senior athletes the genuine opportunity to represent their club/association with a sense of pride and belonging, offering a level of engagement not seen in senior club water polo for many years.
“The prospect of the League will also provide clubs/associations with the opportunity for developing pathways from juniors to senior water polo, increasing the retention of athletes within our sport.
“Designed to attract the best current and emerging talent within Queensland … it is supported by former Olympians, national and state players in the formative years to develop into an elite open level competition. It also provides a local, performance and competition pathway that underpins the QLD Thunder AWL Team.
“Water Polo Queensland aims to provide a nationally aligned, leading WPQ pathway and competition framework which meets the participation, motivation and development needs of all players, coaches, referees and officials at local, regional and state level (with the) Premier League aiming to be the premier water polo competition in Queensland that provides the best performance and pathway opportunities for all involved.”
