Warmer winter sees earlier opening of Lismore Memorial Baths

For first time in its 90 year history the Lismore Memorial Baths has opened its swimming season in August.

Opened on Monday 6th August for the 2018/19 season, the pool's opening is part of a trend that is seeing seasonal pools opening earlier as a result of warmer winter weather.

The Lismore aquatic facility's season has also been extended by a month to finish at the end of May 2019.

Lismore Memorial Baths Assistant Manager Yonika Mantel said the early opening great opportunity for those looking to get active as it moves towards the end of winter.

Mantel told local newspaper The Northern Star "the 25 metre pool and splash pool are heated, and soon the 50 metre pool will be heated again as soon as the solar panels are fixed."

As well as being available for lap swimming and recreational use, the Lismore Memorial Baths is home to the Swimsations Swim School, which offers learn-to-swim classes as well as squads and stroke correction. Lessons start on Tuesday 16th October 2018.

The Lismore Memorial Baths has played a central role in the Lismore community since it opened in 1928 and that history is now depicted on the walls of the facility with historical photographs and stories.
