Victorian Stand Up Paddle boarding program helps teenage girls stay active

A collaboration between VicHealth and Surfing Victoria sees the launch for the fourth year of the Coasting Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) program which has helped thousands of teenage girls from around Victoria to get active.

Introducing the program, Surfing Victoria Chief Executive Adam Robertson stated "this program has seen some fantastic outcomes over the past four years.

“With the help of VicHealth we have been able to introduce Stand Up Paddleboarding to women from all different parts of Victoria and show them that there are so many different ways to be active away from the traditional sports.

“With the 2019/20 programs focusing on teenage participation, we are looking forward to getting more female teenagers into SUP!”

Sessions will be held in four locations - Barwon Heads, Ballarat, Inverloch and Brighton - regularly over the summer. Other locations including Mornington, Lakes Entrance, Shepparton, Bendigo, Lillydale and Lysterfield will also have programs across the summer months.

VicHealth Chief Executive, Dr Sandro Demaio added "coasting is an exciting program that encourages young women to get more active in the water, learn a fun new skill, and socialise - all while enjoying Victoria’s beautiful coastline.”

For just $35, sessions include an hour paddling on the water taught by fully qualified SUP instructors with all equipment included. Coasting for Teens is Victoria's only fully accredited female focused learn to SUP program.
