Victorian Government continues to support grassroots sporting clubs

Through the Sporting Club Grants Program, the Victorian Government is backing more grassroots sporting clubs with funding for uniforms, equipment, training for coaches and officials and increasing participation opportunities.

Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced the latest recipients to share in more than $900,000 from the Sporting Club Grants Program.

The program provides grants of up to $1,000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5,000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers and up to $5,000 for club development.

This year’s grant recipients include the Curlewis Golf Club that received $1,000 to purchase new uniforms for its junior girls, Ashburton United Soccer Club was provided $5,000 to revamp its website and Eltham Junior Football Club was awarded $2,000 for first aid training for their coaches and many other clubs across Victoria.

Since 2014, the program has injected more than $13 million to support community sporting clubs. It’s complemented by the Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package that provided $50 million to more than 7,500 clubs, leagues, state associations and other organisations across the sport and active recreation sector.

These initiatives and more are part of the State Government’s commitment to make community sport more accessible and inclusive, stimulate local economies, build local sport and volunteer opportunities, and increase participation.

Minister Spence notes “supporting clubs to invest in new uniforms and equipment, as well as training for coaches and volunteers, means more opportunities for people to get involved in the sports they love.

“This is about helping clubs get back in the game so more Victorians can enjoy all that grassroots community sport has to offer.”

Curlewis Golf Club Women's President Vicki Carnie adds “this grant enables us to kit out our junior girls with golf specific gear that is age-appropriate, comfortable and fashionable, making them feel even more like a valued member of our club.”
