Victoria University’s St Albans Health & Fitness Centre gets official opening

A new $5.6 million health and fitness centre at Melbourne’s Victoria University has been officially opened by Victorian Senator and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education Scott Ryan.

Opened last year, the St Albans Health & Fitness Centre has already been benefitting students and staff, and providing a welcome resource for the local community.

Located on the St Albans Campus, the facility features a large, open plan gymnasium equipped with state of the art cardio, strength, mobility and functional training equipment, group fitness/multi-purpose space and a multi-sport court.

Equipment includes the latest Life Fitness cardio equipment featuring an interactive HD tablet console with personalised workout tracking, iPod connectivity and online entertainment.

The centre also offers a range of health and wellbeing programs to cater for people of all ages, backgrounds, fitness levels and health.

In opening the Centre, Senator Ryan explained “the centre caters to the various goals and capabilities of people of all ages, backgrounds, fitness levels and health.

“Importantly, it’s not just the University's staff and students who are benefitting, local sporting teams can take advantage of facilities like the multi-purpose sports court and outdoor training courtyard.

“Through this centre, Victoria University is making an important contribution to the broader wellbeing of the community.”

The health and fitness centre was funded with a $2.6 million contribution from the Federal Government and $3 million from Victoria University.

The centre also has the capacity to host national league volleyball tournaments, and is one of three designated facilities for Ambulance Victoria physical testing.
