VicHealth Jumpstart! program delivers funding to 123 organisations

VicHealth has announced they are supporting 123 organisations to JumpStart! their community-led initiatives around active play, food, and art for Victoria’s children and young people (aged 0-25, including families).

123 organisations will share in the VicHealth Jumpstart! Program funding of $3.75 million.

JumpStart! – the second major investment in VicHealth’s Future Healthy initiative - is all about building vibrant communities to support the health and wellbeing of Victoria’s young people

Community-led initiatives to receive funding will include programs that tackle racism through safe and inclusive sport; Gymnastics parkour projects to encourage physical activity; and cooking classes designed to connect young people with their cultural heritage.

For proposed projects, VicHealth will back ideas through building skills and will connect applicants with like-minded leaders, share insights across communities and ensure resources can be accessed to optimise projects.

VicHealth are also opening a second round of JumpStart! funding on 23rd August  to support more community-led initiatives, and more support for Victoria’s young people.

Gymnastics Victoria is among the 123 grant recipients and received funding for a new initiative the ‘Gymnastics Victoria Social Parkour Project’.

This grant will further support Gymnastics Victoria to encourage young Victorians to engage with both the entertaining and developmental aspects that gymnastics has to offer.

This new project will aim to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive opportunity for children and young people living in low socioeconomic areas, assisting them to become more physically active through participation in Parkour classes.

Gymnastics Victoria Chief Executive, Robin O’Neill enthused “we’re thrilled with the opportunities this grant can provide and very thankful to VicHealth for the chance to deliver such a program.

“We’ve seen how popular recreational gym programs like Ninja can be amongst the community and hope to encourage all young people to get involved.

“Through this initiative, we hope to increase access to gymnastics and make it easier for those who might be inspired by Ninja, to now give gymnastics a go.”
