Vale: David Bortfeld, Parks and Recreation professional
Great Lakes Council and staff have been deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected passing of its very popular Manager of Parks and Recreation, David Bortfeld.
David commenced work with Council in 2003 and held the position of Manager for his entire 10 year period with Council. In this role he was responsible for all of the Council's parks, sports fields, beaches, foreshores, playgrounds, pools and showgrounds managing a budget of $8 million per year and leading a team of some 700 volunteers as well as Council staff.
During his time with Council, vast improvements were made in the way Council managed its green assets and the entire community is receiving the benefits of David's hard work and vision. Only recently, David made a presentation to councillors on the achievements of his branch in the last year and councillors acknowledged the great achievements that have been made.
David was very well respected in the community as a person who was happy to communicate and resolve issues in a friendly consultative manner.
He will be sorely missed in council and in the wider community.
Funeral Notice
David Bortfeld's funeral service will be held at the Tuncurry Dog Park, Beach Street, Tuncurry NSW at 1pm on Friday 4th July. The Dog Park is the oval located on the corner of Beach Street and North Street, Tuncurry near the Sporties Club.
A wake will follow at the Cape Hawke Surf Club, Palmgrove Place, Forster (the corner of Underwood Road and Palmgrove Place, at the southern end of One Mile Beach)
In the event that the weather is not suitable for an outdoor gathering an alternate venue is being organised and notice will be issued where possible if there is a change of venue.
Alternatively, please call Great Lakaes Council on 02 6591 7222 in the event of unfavourable weather.
As many people would know, David had a wardrobe full of bright shirts that most of us would never wear in the public arena. However, David was quite attached to them. In order to celebrate Dave, it would be a touching gesture that anyone attending the funeral wear a bright shirt or tie.
