V8 Supercars confirms Malaysian race and ongoing Perth commitment
The V8 Supercars Championship has confirmed that it will race in Kuala Lumpur during its 2016 season after a successful exhibition event at the inaugural Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix Circuit in the Malaysian capital last month.
The addition of a Malaysian round came as V8 Supercars confirmed its calendar for next season.
The KL City Grand Prix will be staged from 12th to 14th August 2016, becoming the 15th race on next year’s championship calendar, running in addition to the current local rounds and the non-championship Formula One Australian Grand Prix.
In June, V8 Supercars had signed a four-year heads of agreement to stage a championship round on the streets of Kuala Lumpur.
It has also been confirmed that the V8s will continue to race at Barbagallo Raceway, Perth, for at least the next three years.
The deal, between Tourism WA, the WA Sporting Car Club and V8 Supercars, locks in a Perth event until at least 2018.
The Perth round is scheduled for 6th to 8th May 2016 next year.
