Troon expands Australian portfolio with Wollongong golf club partnership
Work is set to begin on a $7 million upgrade of The Grange Golf Club in Wollongong after it and amalgamated events partner Dapto Leagues signed a deal with Troon, the world’s largest third party golf management company.
Following a decision by The Grange and the Dapto Leagues board, Troon, a leader in upscale golf facility management, development and marketing, has agreed to be part of a $7 million refurbishment of the Grange clubhouse, function facilities and golf course.
The partnership sees The Grange Golf Club join Troon’s global club network of 200 managed clubs and Troon explands its NSW presence.
Welcoming the deal, Club President Gary Tozer said it was the start of a new era for the 52 year old club, stating “as part of our ongoing strategy to strive for better customer experience, we’re already underway improving our clubhouse, the events facilities and the golf course itself.”
Initially working with the club on its agronomy standards and playability, the full contract will see Troon assisting with all operations within the Club from July 2016.
Troons involvement will kick start an extensive two-year renovation project, aimed at enhancing The Grange in its quest to become the best golf destination in the Illawarra.
Over $7 million will be spent on the venue, including significant changes to the clubhouse and its amenities as well as on the course where improvements will be overseen by David Lunardelli, Troon’s Director of Agronomy for Australia, Asia and Pacific. Lunardelli will drive forward with the construction phase of newly laid out course design plans, relying on his 20 years’ experience in the sector.
Commenting on the improvements, Dapto Leagues Chief Executive David Hiscox stated “our ambitious project to invest in renovation, expansion and improved course design will elevate the club beyond public expectations.
“The revitalised club will expand its appeal to cater for everyone’s needs on and off the course from weddings to conferences, not to mention attract additional golf tourism to the South of NSW boosting the local economy.
“We believe that Troon are the ideal partner to help us through this exciting period”.
Active in Australia since 1998, with one of its very first International properties, the Troon brand in Australia includes Kooindah Waters Residential Golf & Spa Resort and Mollymook Golf Club in New South Wales and in Queensland, Brookwater Golf & Country Club and Peregian Springs Golf Club.
Welcoming The Grange as a Troon property, Bruce Glasco, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of the Troon International Division commented “the Grange is a fantastic facility with a strong emphasis on member and guest satisfaction. We’re excited about the initial stages of our work with the venue, the next few months give us a real opportunity to get the course on the right footing for years to come.
“With the operations team joining the campaign in July, as well as the new array of amenities coming on board, The Grange has a great chance of reaching its goal as the standout course in the region and become one of the most popular club offerings.”
