Trauma and bleeding control course offered for surfers
Eurobodalla Shire Council has advised that TacMed Military Medics will be conducting a one-off trauma and bleeding control course for surfers and ocean-users at Broulee this Friday 21st February.
Attendees will learn skills that can save a life from traumatic and severe injuries like shark attack, fin chop, propeller injury and severe lacerations and puncture wounds. The hands-on course requires participants to get wet and involves the use of fake blood.
Stopping the bleed is a priority in shark attack first aid. The human body has, on average, between 4.5 to 5.5 litres of blood. You can bleed out from an amputated limb in under five minutes.
This free course is sponsored by Council and run by Surfing NSW in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries as part of the NSW Government’s Shark Management Program.
The course runs from 1.45-5pm at South Broulee Beach – sun protection and swimwear required. Spots are limited and bookings essential.
