Tourism businesses invited to Social Media Masterclass

Australian tourism businesses are being invited to take part in a social media master-class in Far North Queensland, as a prelude to this year’s Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE14).

Tourism Australia is offering operators the opportunity to attend its one-day New Media Workshop at Palm Cove on Sunday 11th May, involving some of Australia’s leading social media and digital experts.

Tourism Australia Head of Social Media Jesse Desjardins believes the workshop will provide an invaluable opportunity for Australian tourism operators to learn practical tips from experts in social media and destination marketing which can be applied to their own local businesses.

Desjardins explains "this is a really exciting time for the industry. We wanted to put together a fantastic program that will allow operators to spend an entire day learning about the latest best practices right from the people who are doing it best in the country.”

The program is part of International Media Marketplace, aimed at connecting many of the Australian sellers already attending ATE14 with up to 70 international and domestic media and bloggers being flown in to Cairns to cover Australia’s largest trade exhibition.

The social media workshop includes a series of thirty-minute presentations from ten social media and digital leaders with topics ranging from successful industry case studies to sharing useful information that operators can use to put their own new media marketing into practice.

Tourism Australia will provide an overview of how its uses social media, and there will be other sessions on using Instagram for business, SEO strategy, turning social media followers into sales and creating compelling content.

There will also be a panel discussion involving several of the speakers who will review marketing material submitted by members of the audience.

A networking lunch during the program will provide attendees with an opportunity to meet with the speaking panel and ask questions.
