Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park appoints new Chief Executive

Strengthening Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park’s reputation as a leader in Indigenous tourism and employment in Australia will be a priority for incoming Chief Executive Greg Erwin.

Tjapukai Board Chairman Bruce Glanville has announced that Erwin will step into the role on 2nd March, following outgoing Chief Executive Geoff Olson overseeing the final stages of the Cultural Park’s $12 million redevelopment.

Commenting on Erwin’s appointment, Granville explained “Greg has a wealth of tourism experience having spent 20 years in the industry with the past four years as General Manager at Mossman Gorge Centre and 15 years in various management roles with Accor including General Manager of Novotel Cairns.

“Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park will enter a dynamic new phase in its 28-year history when we unveil the Park’s extensive revitalisation in April.

“The Board is looking forward to be working with Greg as we take Tjapukai forward as Australia’s leading venue to experience Indigenous culture.”

Erwin said he was thrilled with the appointment and was keen to build on Tjapukai’s rich and proud history as the cornerstone of Indigenous tourism in Tropical North Queensland.

He added “the investment of Indigenous Business Australia in the redevelopment of the Cultural Park underlines their commitment and creates a wonderful opportunity to write a new chapter for Tjapukai.

“Australian Indigenous tourism is attracting worldwide attention and the redevelopment will enable Tjapukai to benefit from this growth.

“Working with the team at Tjapukai I will ensure we are focused on delivering a world-class product as we strengthen Indigenous employment, build on trade partnerships and maintain a healthy relationship with the Indigenous community.

“We will need to innovate and work hard to ensure the Tjapukai experience matches the fantastic new facilities.”

The Park has also appointed Barry Weare to the new role of Business Development Manager.
