Ticketing Error Forces Second Sydney Big Day Out
Big Day Out organisers have been forced to hold a second show in Sydney to compensate for a ticketing error which robbed thousands of event goers the chance to buy tickets.
Fans mised out after they logged on to to buy tickets on Ticketmaster's website at the advertised time of 9am (AEDT) Wednesday morning (7th October), only to find them completely sold out.
A glitch by Ticketmaster meant fans were able to purchase tickets around 9pm the night before, instead of 9am, exhausting supply by the morning.
According to a Ticketmaster spokesperson "a large portion of the 50,000 tickets that were accidently on sale (on Tuesday night) were snapped up by scalpers, and have already appeared on eBay at heavily inflated prices."
Scalpers were able to repeatedly buy multiple lots of four tickets during the glitch.
The newly announced second Big Day Out will be held on Saturday, 23rd January, the day after the original Sydney show on Friday, 22nd January. It will be the 100th Big Day Out show.
Big Day Out 2010 will feature Muse, Powderfinger, Lily Allen, Eskimo Joe, Groove Armada, Grinspoon, The Mars Volta, Ladyhawke, Kasabian, Dizzee Rascal, Karnivool, Peaches, The Temper Trap, Midnight Juggernauts, Rise Against and Magic Dirt.
