Thousands of runners to participate in Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB

Thousands of trail runners from across Australia and around the world will descend on Australia’s alpine region this week for the return of Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB®.

The third edition of the sold-out event will welcome more than 3,000 runners to the Snowy Mountains, Australia’s alpine region, from 28th-30th November over 30km, 50km, 100km and 100-mile courses.

Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko is a part of the UTMB® World Series, which brings together the best and most anticipated trail running events in the world.

More than 36 countries will be represented on the start line this week, with New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom the most represented nations outside of Australia.

Tanya Carroll, Regional Director of Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB, said that the team was looking forward to welcoming runners and their families to the Snowy Mountains this week.

Carroll enthused “we’re delighted to welcome thousands of runners and their supporters to the Snowy Mountains for the third year of Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB – our biggest to date. This event has quickly become a bucket-list race for trail runners from Australia and around the world keen to chase the high in this stunning alpine playground.

“Across four distances, runners will experience lush snow gum forests, alpine meadows and granite outcrops with expansive vistas providing a backdrop like no other. Those chasing the ultimate runner’s high will ascend to the highest peak in Australia, Mt Kosciuszko. Our team can’t wait to get the 2024 edition of Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB underway, and we hope all runners taking part have a wonderful time out on the trails.”

The 2024 event will feature exciting new trails and beautiful areas of the mountains for all distances that will further enhance the experience for those lucky enough to secure their entry. The Kosci30, Kosci50 and Kosci100 will all start in Perisher Valley, while the KosciMiler will start in Jindabyne, with all distances finishing at Friday Flat in Thredbo.

Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB begins at 7:00am on Thursday 28th November for those taking part in the Kosci50, followed by the Kosci30 start at 10:00am.

The following day, runners in the KosciMiler will rise in the early hours of the morning for a 3:30am start, navigating the early parts of the course in the dark before being rewarded with an epic sunrise over the mountains. Runners are given a total allowable time of 36 hours to complete the 161km/100-mile course. Also on Friday 29th November is the Kosci100 which begins at 7:00am.
