Thai Tourism Minister emphasises visitors safety following Bangkok bombings

Thailand is trying to restore confidence in its tourism sector following a series of bomb attacks late last week that injured several people.

Bangkok is currently hosting a regional security meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and their counterparts from world powers including the United States, China and Russia.

Thailand’s Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakan told reporters that the bomb incidents would not affect Thailand’s tourism and assured them that the situation was under control.

The Ministry has instructed the Tourist Police Bureau, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Tourism Standard and Tourist Safety Division and other agencies of the ministry to ensure the safety of tourists.

Uniformed police and plain clothes police had stepped up security at all major locations “for the utmost safety of Thais and foreigners, who may visit the Kingdom during vacations or for business”.
