Tepid Baths Learn-to-Swim team the best in New Zealand
Auckland Council’s Tepid Baths Learn-to-Swim team has received the top prize at this year’s New Zealand Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (NZSCTA) awards.
Welcoming the award, which was announced at the NZSCTA conference in Wellington, Auckland Council Pools and Leisure Manager Rob McGee stated “this is a major achievement for the hard working Tepid Baths team who have put a huge amount of effort into establishing their Learn to Swim programme.
“In just two years, since the Tepid Baths reopened, the team has built an award-winning programme that people are lining up to join.
“The 'Teps' team is supported by a network-wide programme of classes and exceptional instructors – so this is really an award that all of our facilities can be proud of.”
Davin Bray, Tepid Baths Centre Manager and Kendall Gray, Aquatics Team Leader were both at the conference to collect the award on behalf of their team.
Bray added “we couldn’t be more proud of our hard working swimming teachers.
“We are challenged every day to deliver fun and stimulating swimming lessons which give our communities water confidence and skills that save lives. It is great to be recognised for doing our job well.”
Auckland Council is committed to putting children and young people first and increasing individual and community wellbeing through participation in recreation and sport.
McGee concluded “Learn-to-Swim programmes are an essential way of introducing youth and non-swimmers to a whole new realm of exercise and leisure opportunities.
“In a region that is surrounded by water, these affordable programmes build confidence and water safety awareness, as well as being a stepping stone to swimming clubs and water sports.”
