Tender open for new Western Australian State Netball Centre
The $26.1 million Western Australian State Netball Centre project will provide a venue for state league netball competition, West Coast Fever training, development squads and community netball activities.
Announcing the tender for the project, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the State Netball Centre would be built at Matthews Netball Centre in Jolimont and integrated into the Town of Cambridge's master plan for the Wembley Sports Park.
Minister Waldron explained "the State Netball Centre will be another exciting addition to the sporting landscape of Western Australia. This venue will provide a long-awaited hub for netball, creating a centre of excellence for both competition and skills development.
"Our partnership with the Town of Cambridge has already helped deliver 18 new outdoor netball courts, and another 30 courts will be progressively commissioned between now and the start of the 2013 netball season in May.
"As part of this partnership, construction of a new clubhouse for the Perth Netball Association is well advanced. These facilities will be enjoyed by thousands of players from all over Perth and Western Australia.
"The Government is looking forward to receiving competitively-priced tenders to deliver a value-for-money project for the WA community."
It is anticipated construction of the State Netball Centre will commence in July and be completed in the third quarter of 2014.
Facilities will include:
• Four indoor netball courts
• Nine competitor change room facilities
• Facilities for West Coast Fever
• Spectator seating for 1,050 people
• Offices for Netball WA and a kiosk facility.
