Tammy van Wisse joins ASSA pool of Ambassadors

The Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA) has just included marathon swimming great Tammy van Wisse into its team of honorary Ambassadors – joining other ASSA Ambassadors, Libby Trickett and Guy Leech.

In announcing van Wisse’s new role, ASSA Chief Executive Ross Gage stated that she would be promoting learn to swim in general, as well as getting behind ASSA’s NO DROWN TOWN initiative.

Gage explained “Tammy’s passion for swimming, current roles in learn to swim, and past experiences promoting water safety, make her a perfect choice for such a role.”

In accepting the role, van Wisse stated “I’m really excited to be onboard as an ASSA Ambassador to help prevent drowning and encourage all parents to give their children the opportunity to learn how to swim.

“As a long distance swimmer and mother to an eight year old, I know there are many benefits that come from learning to swim, its an amazing skill that can keep you fit and healthy for life. But most importantly – learning to swim might just save your life one day.

“I encourage all parents to give this gift to their children.”

During her career as a marathon swimmer, Tammy van Wisse has swum over 65,000 kilometres and has set six World Records (five of which are still current).

The owner of the Swimland Swim School in Narre Warren, Victoria, van Wisse is a strong advocate for water safety and children learning to swim and has been an ambassador for the ‘Play it Safe’ by the water campaign and has been involved in ‘Water Safety Week’ for many years.
