Tallebudgera climbing wall facility reaches new heights

Opened in November last year, the Tallebudgera Beach Climbing Wall development on the Gold Coast is proving to be a popular facility with over 1,000 people having ascended its face.

The 10 metre high by 15 metre wide simulated climbing surface has been replicated and installed from a real life cliff face in Bulgaria, transported and erected by world leading climbing wall specialist Walltopia.

The $800,000 facility features a dual belay option harness system to cater for all ages and climbing assisted situations. It also offers a range of graded climbing routes to suit beginners as well as advanced climbers.

With close proximity to the breaking surf the fixtures and finish have been appropriately specified with stainless steel fixtures, specialised paint finishes and Fibre Reinforced Plastic substituted flooring.

The structure also incorporates a soft fall rubberised safety flooring surface, a clear unimpeded open span structure for visibility, curved insulated composite roof panel system, equipment storeroom, rainwater harvesting system and parkland landscaping.

Explaining the development, Queensland National Parks, Recreation, Sport & Racing Deputy Director-General Richard Watson stated "the covered outdoor artificial climbing wall features an architecturally designed wave shaped roof which offers sun smart protection and means it can be used in most weather conditions.

"An experienced team of qualified outdoor recreation professionals is on hand to ensure climbers get the most out of the activity, whatever their skill level.

"The wall is just one of a range of instructor-led activities provided by the centre both onsite and at the nearby surf beach and Tallebudgera Creek. These include high and low rope challenge courses, surfing, canoeing, body boarding and stand up paddle boarding."

Sited behind the dunes at Palm Beach, the Tallebudgera Active Recreation Centre offers a range of adventure, sport and play packages along with accommodation for groups of up to 480 people.

Based in Bulgaria, and with a global network of distributors, Walltopia provide innovative turn-key climbing wall solutions for climbing walls that meet European Standards and the demands of indoor climbers and clients.

The development was project managed by MultiSpan Australia.
