Sydney cultural attractions to introduce evening openings
Four of Sydney's major cultural institutions will be open late on Wednesday evenings from this summer as part of the NSW Government’s push to boost Sydney’s night time economy and improve access to arts and culture.
From January the Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of NSW, the NSW State Library and the Museum of Contemporary Art will be open until at least 9pm, presenting Wednesday as a night for culture in Sydney.
Introducing the 'Night at the Museum' concept, NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said the initiative came from the NSW Government’s new Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee.
Deputy Premier Grant stated "it’s such a great opportunity to have the treasures in these institutions at night.
"It just makes sense to open their doors to add a new and exciting element to your night out
“Each institution will have their own unique events and exhibitions to entice people in and show off their collections.
“Local restaurants, bars and pubs also stand to benefit as people will no doubt be keen for a drink and a meal after they’ve soaked up all the institutions have to offer.
“This is just the start. We hope more cultural organisations and events get behind Wednesday night culture night to make it bigger and better.”
