SuperSprint and Athletics Victoria launch inaugural Australian Grand Prix Run

SuperSprint and Athletics Victoria, in partnership with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, have launched a new event on Australia's running calendar The Australian Grand Prix Run.

The inaugural Australian Grand Prix Run will be staged on the eve of race week on Sunday 10th March 2013 and will see participants ranging from the age of seven to 60-plus giving it their best shot. Participants can run or walk 10 kilometre or 5 kilometre on the Grand Prix circuit which will be complete with course barriers, grandstands, marquees, overpasses and more.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chief Executive Andrew Westacott, said the Grand Prix Run is an exciting way to be a part of the event festivities, stating "we can't wait to see members of the public run on the Albert Park circuit.

"With the Grand Prix infrastructure in place, it will be like no other running track in Australia.

"We encourage the community to get involved; it doesn't matter whether you're young or old, fast or slow, it's a rare opportunity and promises a view of the track very few members of the public ever get to see."

The event is being organised by sports event management company, SuperSprint whose Director David Hansen adds "participatory events like this are growing in popularity around Australia. The Grand Prix Run is a fresh addition to the calendar, offering a truly unique experience."

Athletics Victoria Chief Executive Nick Honey is also looking forward to a fast and fun race.

Honey concludes "we're delighted to be offering the running community the opportunity to race around the Formula 1® circuit and get involved in the Australian Grand Prix. Runners will come past Lakeside Stadium, the home of athletics in Victoria, and race on one of the fastest pieces of road in Australia."
