Sunrise indigenous cultural tour introduced at Mon Repos newly opened nature resort

NRMA Parks and Resorts has partnered with Bundaberg’s First Nations owned and operated Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours to offer guests at the newly opened nature resort at Mon Repos an exclusive Sunrise Cultural Tour.

Led by a local Indigenous guide from Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours, Turtle Sands guests will join an unforgettable journey around the coastal waterways and sand dunes that make up the precious ecosystem at Mon Repos, home to the largest mainland population of nesting marine turtles.

Available exclusively to Turtle Sands guests, the Sunrise Cultural Tour opens with a Welcome to Country ceremony and continues with a guided walk along Mon Repos Beach. Guests will discover the rich cultural history of the Mon Repos area, fostering an authentic connection to Country through stories and local history recounted by the Taribelang Bunda guide.

Guests will explore the land and its cultural significance, learning about native flora and fauna and hearing the Dreaming story of the Saltwater Turtle, told in situ. The tour finishes with a question-and-answer session, paired with light breakfast refreshments, tea and coffee.

Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours is entirely owned and operated by traditional custodians of the Taribelang Bunda people, who are passionate about the Bundaberg region and preserving and sharing its cultural heritage. Taribelang Bunda has developed guided cultural experiences that offer guests deep insight into the First Nations history, sharing Dreamtime stories, language and cultural traditions, bush tucker knowledge and a real connection to Country.

NRMA Chief Executive Paul Davies said that on behalf of the member organisation he was proud to announce the new tour exclusively available to Turtle Sands guests in partnership with Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours and supported by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services.

Davies shared “The new Taribelang Bunda Sunrise Cultural Tour provides our guests with an immersive stay experience and offers a deeper, more enriched understanding of the region’s ecosystems, history and cultural heritage.

“The First Nations guided experience connects our members and guests to Country year-round and offers a wonderful complement to the Turtle Encounter tours between October and April at the adjacent Mon Repos Turtle Centre.

“The Sunrise Cultural Tour reflects NRMA’s commitment to reconciliation, by supporting First Nations tourism, Indigenous employment and offering meaningful guest experiences that connect people to Country.”

The 90-minute tour runs year-round Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and is open to guests of all ages, with adults joining for $79, children for $69 per person and children under four years joining for free. In addition, My NRMA Rewards Members save 5% on the tour fee.
