Sunbather completes 'turnkey' commercial Solar Pool Heating Installation
Solar pool heating experts Sunbather have completed their latest commercial solar pool heating installation at the Kensington Community Centre in Victoria.
The Kensington Community Centre indoor swimming pool facility consists of two heated pools with building space and filtration system common to both. Pool covers are used out of hours to retain heat and the bathing load between 150-400 swimmers per day.
For the solar installation, Sunbather's winning tender application s to supply and install 580 metre2 of commercial solar pool heating to this centre was accepted by Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions. The solar component of their project commenced late last year and was recently commissioned and handed over to the operators.
To evaluate the benefit of solar heating at the Kensington Community Centre a Sunbather simulation was used which accurately quantifies pool heat losses and solar/gas heat inputs.
From this Sunbather can determine the return on investment and payback period of both solar heating and pool covers (which it also supplier).
Sunbather's Pam Robinson says that "the results are always a favourable outcome with short paybacks and massive energy savings."
Work At the Kensington facility included hydraulic and electrical connection of a suitable circulator pump to the filtration system, flow and return pipe runs to the collector, energy performance metering, commissioning and handover.
Commissioning involved verifying the system function and to assess pump flow rate to confirm design assumptions along with the energy performance metering (a Sonoheat ultrasonic heat metre was installed) to monitor kW savings. All the equipment was then interfaced with the Honeywell's building management system.
