Stage 1 completed of new Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct
Macedon Ranges Shire Council, located in central Victoria, has advised that Stage 1 of the new Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct is now complete.
The completion of Stage 1 of the precinct was made possible by the Victorian Government’s investment through the Local Sports Grants initiative and the Growing Suburbs Fund, along with more than $14.5 million from Macedon Ranges Shire Council, more than $377,000 from Melbourne Water and $100,000 from AFL Victoria.
Located in New Gisborne, the precinct will meet growing demand for sports facilities in Macedon Ranges.
The precinct features a new indoor multi-sport stadium complete with three courts and a show court so more local sport teams including netball, basketball, futsal, and volleyball can train and play close to home.
It also features a new female friendly pavilion and a new oval complete with goal posts, electronic scoreboard, and player seating ready to host local footy, cricket and other outdoor sports.
Local clubs and associations set to benefit from the new precinct include Macedon Ranges Basketball Association, Macedon Ranges Netball Association, Gisborne Bulldogs Basketball Club, Sunbury Basketball Association, Macedon Ranges Futsal Club, Macedon Ranges Volleyball Association, Gisborne Bulldogs Football Netball Club, Gisborne Rookies Junior Football Club, Gisborne Dragons Cricket Club and Gisborne Giants Football Netball Club.
The new precinct is not only a boost for local sports teams that include more than 3,300 participants, but it will also provide new spaces for community groups to meet and conduct local programs.
With a park more than three times the size of the MCG surrounding the new precinct, the local community can also enjoy this new sporting hub year-round thanks to the public open spaces, gardens, a wetland, outdoor fitness equipment, barbecue areas, a playground and a track for walking or biking.
