Sports Engineering Conference returns to southern hemisphere for first time since 2000
On the eve of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Brisbane is to host the prestigious International Sports Engineering Association Conference (ISEA) for the first time.
Due to be held from 26th to 29th of March, ISEA 2018 will bring together world leading researchers, sports professionals and industry organisations to discuss the latest progress in equipment and software design, mechanical structures, performance measurement and analytics, textiles and wearables and how they are changing sports.
Looking forward to the event, Professor David Thiel, General Chair of ISEA 2018 Organising Committee, commented “the ISEA biennial conferences are second to none in predicting the future of sport and give attendees - athletes, coaches, researchers, administrators, companies and the general public - a glimpse into the future directions in sport, where engineering innovation leads the world to improved sports achievements.”
ISEA is the world’s premier event in sports engineering and technology, and this year it will offer an exciting workshops program and an exhibition showcasing products and services to the greater sports engineering community, including a 35 metre instrumented running track, a company designing and exporting light gates for speed assessment, and the latest in sports modelling software.
Among the internationally renowned speakers that will be part of ISEA 2018, are Nicolas Evans, Group Leader of FIFA’S Quality Program and the person behind new generation turf innovations currently being assessed by FIFA; Dr Stephanie Kovalchic, Researcher and Data Scientist, Game Insight Group at Tennis Australia; Professor Yuji Ohgi, expert in wearable technology from the Graduate School of Media and Governance at Keio University in Japan, and Professor Julie Steele (pictured), specialist on smart fabrics, from the School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong.
Sponsored by Griffith University, Altair, MDPI Sports, MDPI Publishers and the Brisbane City Council, ISEA 2018 will consist of plenary talks from leading experts, research papers covering all aspects of sports from cycling and dance to winter sports, playing surfaces and player safety, and the opportunity to network with world leaders in sports engineering.
The intended audience for the conference ranges from sports administrators, sports coaches, sports engineers to academic and industry researchers, engineering, sports science students and the general public.
ISEA serves the rapidly growing community of sports engineering academics and practitioners by promoting the field of sports engineering through information sharing between members, the publication of the journal Sports Engineering, the production of the biannual conference, The Engineering of Sport, and support of the biannual conference the Asia-Pacific Conference on Sports Technology. ISEA's only previous biannual conference in the southern hemisphere was staged in Sydney in 2000.
ISEA 2018 is being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
