Sporting passion leads into surfacing range suitable for all Australian conditions

Having always had an interest in sport courts and surfaces, former Queensland cricketer Wayne Broad started manufacturing tennis and netball sporting surfaces back in the early 1990s.

Broad then joined Australia’s largest rubber recycling company, A1 rubber, and. with co-owner John Randall, continued to work on and improve their technology for the sports surfacing market. And with the recycled rubber market gained momentum, the company was soon offering a wider range of surfaces for fitness, recreation and sport facilities.

Broad knew his technology was as good as any on the market, as the company's approved installers always kept on coming back for more. As a result, he formed a new divison within the business, Courtpave Coatings.

In September this year, the business was expanded with the arrival of experience industry manager Warren Furlong (formerly of California Sports Surface, the distributors of Plexicushion and Rebound Ace surfaces) to head up and release the new formulas and exciting range of sports surface coatings, which in turn will complement the existing A1 Rubber range.

The new range has been totally revamped to suit the Australian conditions, and now includes a formula designed for solely for tennis (the Players Choice), a new slip resistant formulation for netball and multisport applications (the Competitors Choice), a cushioned surface to replicate what the majors are played on (the Professionals Choice) as well as other new additions to the range include COURTPAVE LEGENDS (the Clubs Choice) designed especially for player comfort and consistency followed up by COURTPAVE KIDS (the Schools Choice).

Furlong explains “our aim is to offer the market a complete surfacing package, from softfall in kids playgrounds all the way through to acrylic hard courts.

“This way we can keep our installation teams busy all year round - not just through the warmer climates.”

Since joining the business, Furlong has been hugely impressed by the business’ available technology and has helped introduce slight modifications to surfacing formulations to ensure Courtpave Coatings are as long lasting, durable and consistent as any he had worked with.
