Sporting Heritage for Conference Venue
When the AMI Stadium redevelopment is completed next year, Christchurch will not only have an expanded 41,000 capacity sporting venue but will also offer an impressive new facility for conferences, meetings and gala dinners.
The new Deans Stand features a Members Lounge that can comfortably accommodate plenary groups of up to 800 or large banquet dinners for 610. The adjacent Field Lounge will be an ideal setting for cocktail functions, exhibits or dining, with spectacular views over the playing area by day and night.
While the Deans Stand features a range of other lounges for break out groups for up to 100 theatre style, throughout AMI Stadium there are a variety of interesting spaces, all with views over the playing area and easily accessible via a concourse linking all the stands.
Vbase Alan Garner, General Manager of Business Development for stadium manager Vbase explains that the Vbase team is excited at the prospect of hosting conferences at AMI Stadium, stating "as well as offering everything needed to host a successful conference, the Stadium has the âXâ factor that gives our guests something a bit special."
Garner says some of the most memorable functions at AMI Stadium have drawn on the venueâs strong rugby heritage with referees (played by actors) directing guests to their function, moving through the changing rooms complete with teams showering and a strong smell of liniment in the air, adding "it all adds to the atmosphere that can turn an event into a truly unique and memorable occasion."
AMI Stadium is just three kilometres from the centre of Christchurch. Coaches can park immediately alongside the lifts that provide easy access to the Stadium and its event and conference facilities.
Vbase also owns and operates the Christchurch Convention Centre, Christchurch Town Hall for Performing Arts, and Westpac Arena.
