Sport NSW strategy calls for legacy investment
Sport NSW has called on the NSW Government to capitalise on the potential impact of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games by investing in a comprehensive legacy program that will benefit community sport throughout the state for generations.
Launched at last Friday’s Sports Foyer NSW Sports Industry Conference, the report Impact 2032 recognises that Australia’s hosting of the Games represents a momentous opportunity for all states and territories.
Commenting on its impact, Sport NSW Chair, Chris Hall stated “beyond the thrill of Australia hosting the world’s premier multi-sport event, the Games present a unique chance for governments and sports to invest in comprehensive legacy programs that will benefit community sport throughout the nation for generations
“The Games are not just for elite athletes. They are a celebration of sport that will inspire and engage millions of people across Australia to participate and enjoy a healthier, active lifestyle.
“By investing in programs, facilities, leadership, capability building and events, the NSW Government can support and encourage people of all ages and abilities to be active participants in sports.
“Hosting the Games provides an ideal backdrop for such investments.”
Sport NSW’s platform complements the Australian Olympic Committee's Elevate 2042 strategy and aims to facilitate discussion with the NSW Government to continue their previous great work of investing into legacy from major sporting events.
Through consultation with their members, Sport NSW identified the following key areas for impact:
Supporting Participation Programs
Building Leadership and Capability
Rejuvenating and Increasing Facilities
Developing Coaches and Match Officials
Enhancing our Pathways and High Performance
Securing a Pipeline of Sports Events
Sport NSW acknowledges that the NSW Government had a strong record of investing in major event legacy including the FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIBA Women’s World Cup, NSW ATP Cup and ICC T20 World Cup Cricket.
