Sport Award Winners

Brian Cook, Chief Executive of the Geelong Football Club was named Sports Executive of the Year at the 28th Australian Sport Awards. It was a double victory for the Cats as the Club was also named the OAMPS Insurance Brokers National Team of the Year after their dominant 2007 AFL season.

Top honours at the Awards went to Australia's new Moto GP champion, Casey Stoner, who won the Dawn Fraser Award, the country's pre-eminent sport award, in recognition of his outstanding international achievements and his contribution to Australian sport. Stoner is the youngest recipient in the history of the Award.

The Australian Sport Awards are the only awards in Australia to recognise achievements across all sports in all areas of the sporting sector. The Awards were announced via a special online video presentation in conjunction with media partner SBS Television.

Royal Life Saving Society was also a significant winner at the awards with Barbara Morgan named Official of the Year, Greg McLennan named Volunteer of the Year and Betty Sullivan receiving the Community Leadership Award.

Further information on the Awards is available at www.australiansportawards.com.au.

The full list of winners is published in the January/February 2008 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
