Significant restoration project completed on Castle Hill Heritage Park

A significant project to restore the Blue Gum High Forest within Castle Hill Heritage Park has been completed by the NSW Environmental Trust in collaboration with The Hills Shire Council.

Over the past three years, Council was able to rehabilitate parts of Blue Gum High Forest with a grant of $81,030 from the NSW Environmental Trust as well as in-kind contributions provided by Council.

The site has undergone a significant transformation which has seen the regrowth of native plants replacing the dense, thick weeds that previously took over the banks of the creek.

The project also saw the removal of 0.6ha of woody weeds such as Privet and Lantana from along the creek, and regular bush regeneration was also carried out to help the native plants regenerate.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi notes “Castle Hill Heritage Park is a magnificent community asset for local families and it is looking better than ever following the Blue Gum High Forest restoration project.

“I encourage members of our community to join their local Bushcare groups to help maintain our precious native bushland alongside Council’s contractors who will continue these works into the future.”

This project was supported by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
