Shoalhaven City Council encourages youth to submit event activity proposals
Ahead of NSW Youth Week 2022, Shoalhaven City Council is encouraging young people, or those that work with young people, to submit ideas for an event activity that celebrates young people - aged 12 to 25 years - in the Shoalhaven.
Council’s Youth Week Grants 2022 will provide small grants up to $1,000 to community members, groups and organisations that include young people in the planning and delivery of events and activities that support and enhance the lives of young people during Youth Week.
The NSW Youth Week program will take place from Monday 4th April to Thursday 14th April 2022 and will focus on youth led activities that celebrate the valuable contribution young people make to our community and offer a great opportunity for young people to re-connect and have fun!
Shoalhaven City Council Director City Lifestyles Jane Lewis notes “the program supports collaborative efforts between community groups and organisations that are based in the Shoalhaven Local Government Area to deliver local projects that support the vision of Council.
“Projects and activities must include young people, aged 12 – 25 years, in the planning, development and management of activities.
“Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their voices heard on issues of concern to them and showcase their talents.”
With Youth Week and Seniors Festival coinciding in 2022 at similar times, there are opportunities for applications to include intergenerational activities. When younger people actively engage with older Australians it has been shown to provide mutually beneficial outcomes for both groups as well as the community. Council encourages applications that bring together young people and seniors in the community.
In response to feedback from previous grant rounds, this year’s application process has been simplified to ensure it is quick and straightforward for community groups and organisations to complete.
Grant applications close at 5pm Wednesday 22nd December 2021. Grant applications can also be made by email, mail or in person to the front counter at Council’s Nowra Administration Building during business hours.
