Shanghai Tourism Festival sees rise in visitor numbers
The Shanghai Tourism Festival welcomed more than 36,000 people to its opening night on Saturday, more than double the number of people that attended the opening night of last year’s event.
Aiming to boost the city’s culture and tourism consumption during the Northern Hemisphere autumn, the Festival, which will last until 27th September, features 102 travel routes and products, as well as 156 activities.
The event sees more than 1,500 performers from around 20 countries and regions join the festivities every year.
Shanghai Police formulated a scientific security plan and deployed more than 1,000 police officers to guide the crowds, prevent accidents and ensure the safety of residents and tourists.
The Festival also launched an online platform for the first time, on which people can get guidance and advice for traveling and shopping by scanning a QR code.
Disneyland Park, Shanghai Wild Animal Park and Shanghai Zoo are supporting the event by offering half-price entrance tickets.
Last month, Shanghai Disneyland theme park, which reopened in May, adjusted its booking system in line with increasing its capacity.
The Chinese Government raised the operating capacity from 30 to 50% within its ‘Notice on Further Business Resumption of Tourism Enterprises’ memo.
Provinces and cities across the Yangtze River Delta jointly participated in the festival for the first time with special venues created in the cities of Nantong, Wenzhou, and Huangshan, launching cross-provincial tourist activities, and offering tourism products with discounts.
