Rottnest Island’s Family Fun Park faces closure as Western Australian Government looks to upgrade site
The Western Australian Government is offering a new development opportunity on Rottnest Island through an Expressions of Interest process. Part of the site offered for development currently accommodates Rottnest's Family Fun Park and Picture Hall facilities. These facilities, which include a movie hall, mini golf and arcade games, are currently leased until 31st October 2023.
WA Tourism minister Roger Cook said the fun park would benefit from either renewal or an upgrade and noted "the end of the lease of the family fun park offers a great opportunity for a proponent to deliver a new tourism offering in partnership with Rottnest Island Authority.
"RIA will consider offerings that complement the natural features of the Island's land, sea and airspaces, as well as activities that have potential to activate indoor and outdoor spaces in new and exciting ways."
The 11,000 square metre site at 1 Brand Way in the Settlement is being offered for a range of uses including recreation and leisure, food and beverage or accommodation.
There is no requirement for the fun park to remain in any new development. Developers would have the option to take all or part of the proposed lease area.
The Rottnest Island Authority is consulting with the Wadjemup Aboriginal Reference Group consisting of Aboriginal people from the Great Southern, Mid-West and North-West of Western Australia and other stakeholders to ensure the design guidelines and development will respect the cultural, historical and environmental significance of the site.
The current fun park has entertained families for many years but will benefit from either renewal or an upgrade.
Further information on the EOI for 1 Brand Way is available on the Tenders WA website and will close at 2:30pm AWST on 20th September 2022.
