Rod Laver Arena a finalist in Billboard Magazine's 'Top Arena' Category
Rod Laver Arena has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2012 Billboard Touring Awards, 'Top Arena' category.
The 2012 Billboard Touring Awards will honour the global concert industry's top artists, venues and professionals for the year, based on the Billboard Boxscore chart and actual box office performance between 1st October 2011 and 30th September 2012.
In this period Rod Laver Arena hosted some of the hottest world tours including Roger Waters' The Wall, Prince, Lady Gaga and the Beach Boys.
Continually rating in the best venues worldwide, this is Rod Laver Arena's second nomination in the Top Arena category.
This year, the other nominees for Top Arena are O2 Arena, London and Staples Centre, Los Angeles while the award has been won in recent years by O2 Arena and Madison Square Garden.
Brian Morris, Chief Executive of Melbourne and Olympic Parks, which manages Rod Laver Arena explains "the music and touring industry continues to evolve with technology, among other factors which have challenged us over the past quarter of a century since Rod Laver Arena was opened. A key to our continued success has been strong relationships with our promoters who do such a tremendous job bringing us the top international tours, and of course the Melbourne public which have rightly earned a reputation as fantastic supporters of live music."
"To follow last year's finalist nomination and again be recognised alongside the likes of O2 Arena and the Staples Centre, by one of the most respected music magazines Billboard, is a proud achievement for our organisation and hardworking staff."
