Rockhampton Library and Zoo collaborate on Storytime Program
A collaboration between Rockhampton Regional Libraries and Rockhampton Botanic Gardens & Zoo will once again deliver the popular Storytime Program at the Zoo.
Communities, Culture and Heritage and Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said this free, family-friendly event invites children to revel in books, song, and dance, immersed in the sights and sounds of the Zoo's animals.
Deputy Mayor Wickerson noted "these storytime sessions offer families a relaxed and informal way to connect with books, music, and nature, featuring animal-themed stories, catchy songs, and the chance to spot real wildlife around the Zoo.
"Across last year, we saw an incredible response with nearly 600 children under five, along with their parents and caregivers, join us for our Zoo Storytime sessions.
"Families absolutely loved the experience of bringing books to life in such a special setting, and this year, we're back, ready to welcome even more little book lovers to the Zoo.
"Our library programs are always free, inclusive and welcoming, and this one just happens to come with the added bonus of koalas, chimpanzees, and meerkats nearby!"
Rockhampton Zoo Director Liz Bellward said the Zoo is thrilled to once again partner with Rockhampton Regional Libraries to bring pop-up storytime sessions to life.
Bellward added "The Rockhampton Botanic Gardens & Zoo is one of our region's favourite places for families, and this partnership with the Libraries team makes it even more special.
"We love seeing kids light up when they spot the animals, and even more so when they're dancing and singing during storytime.
"Simply bring along your picnic rug, hat, sunscreen and some water and snacks, and settle in for a beautiful morning activity.
"After storytime wraps up, families can take their time exploring the zoo, visiting the animals, and enjoying everything the Zoo has to offer."
Rockhampton Regional Libraries offer a wide range of resources and services for all ages, extending beyond books to include audiobooks, movies and TV shows, games and free programs for all ages.
Storytime sessions will be held at the Rockhampton Zoo on Wednesday's at 9:30am on 7th May, 1th8 June, 16th July and 13th August.
