Robyn Archer named Program Advisor for 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture
The International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) and the Australia Council for the Arts have announced the appointment of singer, writer, artistic director and public advocate for the arts, Robyn Archer AO, CdOAL (France), OC (Belgium) as Program Advisor for the 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture.
Archer will work closely with IFACCA and the Australia Council on developing the Summit theme, Creative Intersections, and selecting speakers. The World Summit will highlight how the arts can give a voice to diverse communities through collaborations with sectors of society such as health, technology, education, environment, business and cultural identity.
Celebrating IFACCA's tenth anniversary and a first for Australia as the host country, the 5th World Summit will be held in Melbourne from 3rd to 6th October, 2011. Over 600 delegates from 80 countries are expected to attend.
The only international event of its kind, the World Summit brings together arts policy makers from around the world and provides a platform to exchange experiences and ideas about key issues affecting public support for artists and the arts at a national and global level.
The 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture is being jointly hosted by IFACCA and the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with Arts Victoria.
The Summit's theme of Creative Intersections highlights the current global interest in how the arts can give voice to different communities and concerns, through collaborations with business and the economy, new technologies, health and wellbeing, the environment, education and identity through Indigenous, local and global cultures.
The Australia Council won a competitive bid process among the IFACCA's national members from 61 countries. The Australian Summit is likely to attract over 500 key people from arts funding agencies and cultural organisations from around the world. The impact of arts and culture policies will be explored, with many delegates expected to bring to the 2011 Summit a specific interest in the Asia-Pacific region.
