RhinoPlay secures majority stake in Queensland-based The Play Works
Indoor play equipment constructor RhinoPlay has completed its move into outdoor play spaces with its acquisition of Queensland-based The Play Works.
Having previously focused on indoor play spaces RhinoPlay, which is owned by mid-market private equity firm Redwood North, has now created a company able to design and equip both contained indoor and outdoor play spaces.
Recent projects by The Play Works have included Brisbane City Council’s Frew Park and Westfield Coomera’s playground.
Founded in the 1990s, The Play Works founders have been reported as retaining a shareholding, in the business, while selling a majority stake to RhinoPlay for more than $4 million.
They will join RhinoPlay Chief Executive Henry Greenacre in leading the group.
RhinoPlay, which specialises in contained indoor space for family restaurants, also sells trampolines, jumping castles and other play equipment to pubs, clubs, councils and schools.
Redwood bought a majority stake in RhinoPlay last year after 18 months of talks, securing its interest from company founder Ryan Gillatt.
The purchase saw Gillatt move from his Chief Executive role to become Head of Design, with Greenacre, the former Asia Pacific General Manager of Uber’s electric bikes and scooters business taking on the senior management role.
