Review of WA Country Sport
Western Australia needs for more regionally-based talent identification and development programs according to the WA Governmentâs recently released Review of Sport and Recreation in Regional Western Australia.
Launching the review while opening the administration centre for the South West Academy of Sport in Bunbury, newly appointed WA Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron stated that "the report shows that sport and recreation is flourishing in the regions but there are clear challenges brought about by a mix of factors, including changing demographics, climate change and the lure of high paying jobs in the mining sector."
The review, the first of its kind in 21 years, identifies opportunities for improving the delivery of sport and recreation in country WA.
Authored by Albany MLA Peter Watson, the review takes account of the exceptionally strong growth in the WA economy over recent years.
