Resorts World Sentosa to commence US$5 billion waterfront expansion project

Genting Singapore is set to commence work on a waterfront development as part of Resorts World Sentosa’s S$6.8 billion (US$5 billion) expansion.

In a newly-released third-quarter business overview, Genting Singapore said it will start building the integrated resort’s waterfront development this month after awarding the construction contract.

The site includes two new luxury hotels with 700 rooms, as well as entertainment experiences, and retail and dining outlets.

The first phase of the expansion, dubbed RWS 2.0, started in the second quarter of 2022.

Genting Singapore has also provided an update on other elements in the project, which will debut in phases, starting with the launch of Asia’s first Harry Potter: Visions of Magic experience later this month.

This will be followed by the opening of Universal Studios Singapore’s new Minion Land, which is on track to launch in the first quarter of 2025.

Inspired by Illumination’s Despicable Me and Minions franchises, the land will feature rides like ‘Despicable Me Minion Mayhem’ and a new carousel exclusive to Universal Studios Singapore called ‘Buggie Boogie’.

Genting Singapore’s financial results showed a 19% decline in Q3 revenue to S$562 million while gaming revenue was down 28% year-on-year at S$330 million.

By contrast, non-gaming revenue increased by 2% to $231.8 miilion, despite the full closure of the integrated resort’s Hard Rock Hotel for renovation and rebranding, and the S.E.A. Aquarium’s weekly two-day closure for its transformation into the Singapore Oceanarium.

As part of the RWS expansion, Universal Studios Singapore will also be expanded with a Super Nintendo World feature.
