REPs going from strength to strength
The New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), which operates New Zealand's registration system for exercise professionals, is in the middle of its annual re-registration of more than 1,700 exercise professionals in New Zealand.
According to REPs Registration Co-ordinator Kelly Ockwell, "registration numbers are well up on this time last year, with re-registrations almost 30% ahead of this time 2007."
REPs, which was set up in 2001 to help the public identify those exercise professionals who met the national standards, is one of the founding members of the International Confederation of Registers of Exercise professionals (ICREPs). ICREPs now has a presence in almost 30 countries, with national portability systems in place for exercise professionals moving to/from these counties as long as they are registered.
Richard Beddie, Chief Executive of FitnessNZ advised "the most important thing for the public to remember is to ensure they get safe and effective exercise advice is to make sure your trainer and facility is registered."
