Renowned venue caterer joins Perth Stadium team
Craig Menzies - the catering expert behind the food and beverage operations at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and a former Director of Food and Beverage at Crown Perth - has become the latest senior appointment at the new Perth Stadium.
The highly-regarded venue, events and catering manager has been appointed General Manager of Catering at VenuesLive – the leading Australian venue management company that will operate Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct.
Menzies is the ninth senior appointment to the Perth Stadium team that will be led by Chief Executive Officer, Mike McKenna. He will take up his role on 23rd January.
Born and raised in Scotland, from early 2013 to November 2015, Menzies was Food & Beverage Operations Manager at Adelaide Oval, involved in the intricate design of F&B outlets at the redeveloped venue and leading the creative delivery of food across all categories.
He was Project Manager for Hill Of Grace restaurant, the fine-dining restaurant opened in partnership with Henschke wines.
Prior to Adelaide Oval, Menzies was Director of Food & Beverage at Crown Resort and Casino, Perth - handling a multi-million-dollar F&B portfolio. He played a lead role in the project team that opened eight new restaurants, including Bistro Guillaume and Merrywell.
In the lead-up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Menzies was Food & Beverage Manager at the Hilton Hotel, Beijing & Chongqing, China and helped deliver the new Hilton Wangfunjing in Beijing in advance of 2008 Olympics.
Commenting on his new appointment, Menzies stated “I am very excited to be joining Mike McKenna and the VenuesLive team that will operate one of the world’s great stadiums, and I look forward to the journey ahead.
“During my time in Adelaide, I was fortunate enough to experience first-hand the excitement and anticipation in the city when the redeveloped Adelaide Oval was opened.
“Now, living in Perth, I can feel the passion that people have for the magnificent Perth Stadium and the world-class sport and entertainment that it will deliver for the people of Western Australia.
“I will bring my Adelaide Oval experience and premium hospitality experience to the VenuesLive team at Perth Stadium as we set about making this a truly exceptional venue.”
Perth Stadium Chief Executive Mike McKenna welcomed the appointment, adding “having spent much of his hospitality career in Perth, Craig is very excited about the opportunities that Perth Stadium offers.
“Craig has a wealth of experience in the catering and hospitality industry that I know will benefit the food and beverage experiences we will be offering at the venue, and I am looking forward to him joining the team that will run the new Perth Stadium.
“The team is fast taking shape, with Craig being the latest experienced venue manager now confirmed in a senior executive role.”
By the time Perth Stadium opens, there will be more than 70 full-time members of staff. They will be supported by over 1,250 event-day staff, with ongoing work also for a range of local suppliers and contractors.
